Taxis are as synonymous with New York City as the Empire State Building or Times Square. Over half a million people take taxicabs across the boroughs every single day. With so many cabs on the road, this means taxi accidents are a relatively common occurrence. Whether you were injured as a passenger of a taxi, were struck by a cab while walking or biking, or were in another vehicle that was involved in an accident with a taxi driver, you need a competent attorney to protect your right to compensation.
With a taxi accident claim, your lawyer will need to determine fault and identify any and all potential sources of compensation – whether this is the insurance policy of the taxi driver, cab company, and/or your own policy. The goal is to maximize your recovery so it covers all of your losses and expenses – now and into the future.

Insurance Requirements for New York City Taxicabs
In New York City, all yellow taxicabs and other licensed vehicles are required to carry the following minimum insurance in the event of an accident:
- $100,000 per person;
- $300,000 per accident; and
- $10,000 in property damage liability.
So-called “gypsy cabs” may not carry this insurance, however. These unlicensed taxis may only have minimum liability coverage of $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident, if they have insurance at all.
