Trovan, an antibiotic which was approved by the FDA in December, 1997, has been found to cause serious liver injuries in some patients. It has been on the market since February, 1998. The FDA issued an advisory to physicians that the drug (trovafloxacin/alatrofloxacin), in both the oral and intravenous formulations, should be used only in the case of serious life-threatening infections.
