Irwin M. Silbowitz was the founding partner of Silbowitz, Garafola, Silbowitz, Schatz & Frederick, L.L.P. He established this practice with George Garafola in April of 1987.

From 1961 to 1973, Mr. Silbowitz was a State Supreme Court Special Referee and Deputy Chief of the law department for Manhattan and Bronx counties. In 1973, he became a Civil Court Judge, and in 1975 he became a State Supreme Court Justice, a position he held with honor and distinction for 12 years.

Inspired and driven by his own commitment to excellence, Mr. Silbowitz started his firm with a basic premise that remains true today. He believed that it is unacceptable to provide clients with anything less than the best legal representation available.

Upon retiring from the bench and inspired by his decision to form a superior law firm dedicated to the unique concerns of injured individuals, Mr. Silbowitz went to battle against some of the most powerful and influential corporations, and insurance companies in our land. Pitted against adversaries with greater resources and deeper pockets, he carved out a winning record largely as a result of his tenacity and expertise.

During his distinguished career, Mr. Silbowitz negotiated countless settlements and tried numerous claims to verdict, developing a reputation as an assiduous litigator devoted to his clients and their very special needs. He litigated matters involving motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, faulty elevators, construction accidents, and many others.

Mr. Silbowitz also served as a mediator and arbitrator for such notable companies as Settlement Systems, United Arbitration, Resolute Systems, and Expedite, to name a few. As a mediator and arbitrator, he utilized the skills and reputation that he developed through the years to assist both plaintiff and defense attorneys in resolving their differences to avoid costly litigation and to aid plaintiffs in receiving settlement proceeds in a timely manner.
